This could be worse.

It's bound to be better than the last bar I was at, anyway - speaking of, stay away from the Gliese system, kids. They aren't very friendly there. I've had better service in the Silver Devastation; and the hypervodka was watered down. Huge disappointment.

So I guess this is a fresh fresh start. Captain Jack Harkness, at your service. I'll be a warden here for a while. Now, who wants to start the introductions? I've got all the time in the world.

You think we could get them to Expelliarmus each other? [He spied an empty table and gestured toward it, grinning to himself.] How do they know about us? You think we're from books they read?

Snape's a friend now, so I'd be hard pressed to ask him. [She moved toward the empty dropped into it quickly.] I think we're some sort of television show there. Kurt knows about us, and he recognized me right away. It's a bit funny, the way reality works.

More than a bit. [Jack pushed her chair in before sitting himself, propping his chin up.] I'd look good on television.

Let's be honest here, Jack. You look good everywhere. [Martha propped her elbow on the table, and smirked at him, before she rested her chin on her palm.]

You make a very good point, Ms. Jones, [he said with a grin. Leaning forward, both elbows on the table, he cocked his head to the side.] So. You came here after the whole metacrisis thing? Haven't been back since?

[Martha clicked her tongue at him] Doctor Jones, if you please, Captain. [There was a quick mock salute before she moved in her chair, tucking one leg below her.] And yeah. I went back to New York... UNIT either fired me or I quit. The Admiral offered me a job.

[A little pause before she spoke again.] Went home a little while ago. I was only there for a few days; I had some business I had to take care of.

[Jack lifted his hands appeasingly, apologetic.] Doctor Jones, of course. [He smiled a little at that pause, not quite happily. That pause sounded familiar.]

Good business, or bad?

[Martha laughed quickly at the calling her Doctor, and she tilted her head with a smirk. At the question, she just kinda shrugged.]

The kind of business that two friends who haven't seen each other in a long time shouldn't be talking about unless they are far more drunk than we are now.

That sounds like a challenge, Doctor Jones. [He grinned and stood, heading for the bar and returning with two glasses and... a bottle of hypervodka. He loved this place.] Ever had this before?

[When he said that it sounded like a challenge, Martha pulled a face but laughed as he stood up and then returned with the glasses. One brow moved upwards when she saw what was in his hands.] I'm guessing that's the famous hypervodka?

Yes it is, [He said, pouring them both a glass; though his had a substantially larger amount. He'd been joking about a challenge; hell, Jack had been drinking a lot lately, it wasn't exactly fair. And his liver sure could take it.] It's strong.

Oh dear. [The words were said with a laugh and a mock expression of horror as she took the glass and looked at it. She tilted it to one side, and then the other before she moved it to her mouth. Martha Jones normally drank wine or beer, so her liver was not at all used to this. This should prove an interesting experience.] If I get sick, Jack Harkness you're so holding my hair back.

[Jack laughed and took his own sip, which was somewhere between a sip and a gulp, really.] Every time, Martha Jones, [he promised. At least he knew his liver would just...well, it'd rupture, he'd die, and t hen he could start all over again. Wonderful, really.]

[When she took the sip, she winced a bit, but there was no fit of coughing. Just that wince and a little shiver.] Good friends will always hold back your hair from the sick. [She grinned at him, because she would do the same... of course his hair never needed it. Another sip and less of a wince.]

[He smiled as the wince started to fade, chuckling around his next drink.] Maybe I'll grow my hair out, so you can have something to do.

[The third sip made barely a wince. Well, at least it was getting better than it had been. Still, she was sipping rather slowly.] I can't imagine you with long hair, Jack. Long hair and the jacket? You'd look like some poor, displaced hippie.

I'll have you know the sixties were very good to me. I even went off to America and had flower crowns bestowed upon me. [She was right, though, long hair was definitely not for him.]

Come on Jack... hasn't every decade been good to you in some way or another. [There was a grin.] And I wish we'd ended up in America rather than London for 1969. Of course, it was fun in some ways. [But definitely not fun in others.]

Some more than others, [He said, and took another drink to hide that sad smile. When his glass went down, he had a normal smile on again.] It's always fun in someways, isn't it.

[Martha knew the sad smile, but she didn't comment on it, instead taking a larger gulp of her drink. She did wince that time.] Yeah, if there wasn't that little fun, it wouldn't be worth it at all.

[Jack laughed and reached out, briefly placing a hand over her wrist.] Slow down, I was joking about that challenge. [He was having trouble with what WAS worth it for the past few months - so he didn't address it at all.]

[When he told her to slow down, Martha raised a brow and looked at him with a smirk.] You really don't want to have to hold back my hair do you?

I don't think it'll be the highlight of my evening. [He grinned and lifted his drink, toasting an evening sans vomit.]
